Medicare Supplement Insurance is private health insurance in addition to Original Medicare.  A Medicare supplement insurance policy is often referred to as a Medigap policy because it covers the gaps in Medicare Parts A & B. With Original Medicare you may be responsible for out of pocket expenses like deductibles, co-payments, co-insurance, and excess charges above Medicare approved amounts.
